I cannot recommend Yaka enough! I initially signed up for 5 days and ended up doing 10 days because it was so good. My instructor Vidura taught me so well and I progressed much quicker than I thought I would. He was encouraging but also challenged me and became my friend 🫶🏻 Yasiru and the whole team are so welcoming and have created a great place to learn but also to relax and enjoy the beach. I recently took a surfing lesson with “YAKA SURF”, and they were amazing! The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and skilled. I just completed a 7-day course at YAKA Surf Club, and I went from beginner to intermediate on a shorter (but still long) board! Our instructor, Gayan, was incredibly focused and professional. He taught me how to read the waves and significantly improved my technique, for which I’m very grateful. He consistently challenged me, leading to substantial progress.
The school itself made us feel completely cared for. After each lesson, we were provided with fresh towels, water, or delicious king coconuts. All the staff were friendly and fun, and the facility was impeccably clean. Throughout the course, we had free access to surfboards for free surfing. I highly recommend this school for anyone looking to improve their surfing skills!

We had an amazing week with Yaka. We had 7 surfing sessions with them, 2 hours/day and on top of this, after our lessons we could use the boards all day long for free. The service was perfect. After surfing we got towels, water, coconut/coffee, they took us to another spots with tuktuk. We recommend also the owner, Yasiru’s sister as a surf photographer. She took photos about our surf sessions and we got amazing photos. Our surf instructor, Gayan was dedicated, focused and with his surf experience and knowledge we developed a lot in these 7 days. I am intermediate and I switched my board to shorter with his help. My friend came as beginner and in these 7 days she improved and became an intermediate surfer. my family and I had great time in Yaka surf school. My wife and my kid took lessons- and it was different from what we knew about surfing lessons. The instructor was very professional and gave good instructions that  gave them good self efficacy to surf by themselves. The atmosphere, the good vibes and the good care of the staff is unusual and definitely made our vacation joyful and better. Can’t wait to comeback soon

Problematic place. Thetf and disinformation.
Had my kid take a lesson at Yaka. I asked about a 30 min lesson, and got a quote of Rs. 1,000 in Yaka, so I assumed an hour will be 2,000 and an hour and a half 3,000 + tip. Once completed I was told the price is Rs. 6,000...and that no one on the beach will give lesson for 1.5 (a day later I got a lesson somewhere else exactly for that price). After 10 min of arguments I ended up paying 4,000 (and leftanother 1,000 tip for the instructor). But worse, during my kid's lesson, when I was with him in the water, my Birkenstok plastic sandles were gone, from the very center of Yaka's grounds...Sorry, but I have a problem to believe that they were taken by mistake (no other pair was left) or pulled by the ocean (they were on top of a sun bed). Nishu was awesome! We went from 0 experience to catching our own waves in the first lesson. Highly recommend!
